Market:
Waste and Recycling
Location:
Western Cape, KZN, North West, Free State, Gauteng & Mpumalanga
Project Objective:
Ensuring compliance with the extended producer responsibility (GN400) regulation
Project Execution Strategy:
The project involved conducting Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) audits in accordance with the applicable requirements of GN 400 and relevant EPR Regulations. The audits included a desktop review of relevant documentation, verification of reported data, assessment of compliance with applicable regulatory obligations and performance targets, and evaluation of waste collection, recycling and recovery activities. Findings were documented in a comprehensive audit report, highlighting non-conformances, compliance risks and practical recommendations to support corrective action and improve overall EPR compliance.
Project Key Achievements:
The verification of compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, assessment of performance against prescribed collection, recycling and recovery targets, and improved traceability of waste management activities. We identified compliance gaps, data discrepancies and opportunities for improvement, providing practical recommendations to strengthen EPR scheme implementation, reporting accuracy and stakeholder management. The outcomes will in turn support informed decision-making, effective corrective action planning and the continual improvement of environmental performance and regulatory compliance.
