Market:
Mining
Location:
Meyerton, Gauteng
Project Objective:
Obtaining the required Environmental Authorisation and Atmospheric Emissions Licence for the installation and operation of rotary dryers in Meyerton, enabling African Pegmatite to improve the drying of chrome material from approximately 3–4% moisture to below 1% for more efficient downstream processing.
Project Execution Strategy:
The project was executed through an integrated environmental authorisation and air-quality licensing approach. ENVASS first confirmed the regulatory requirements and undertook project initiation, desktop review, site sensitivity verification and specialist screening. This was followed by the Scoping and Environmental Impact Assessment process, including public participation, specialist air quality and noise assessments, impact assessment, preparation of the EIAR and EMPr, and submission to the competent authority for decision-making. In parallel, the Atmospheric Emissions Licence application was prepared and progressed for submission to the relevant licensing authority, with the AEL process linked to receipt of the Environmental Authorisation.
Project Key Achievements:
Successfully completed the S&EIA process and obtained Environmental Authorisation for four rotary dryers in Meyerton, supported by specialist air quality and noise assessments, public participation, and the associated Atmospheric Emissions Licence process.
