Project Information:
ENVASS was appointed to develop an Alien Invasive Plant Species (AIPS) Management Plan for a property near Mapleton, Brakpan, Gauteng. The project supported environmental compliance and sustainable land management by identifying invasive species, assessing habitat condition, and prioritising areas requiring management.
Approach
The project included a desktop review, detailed field surveys, vegetation mapping, and an inventory of alien invasive plant species across the site. Assessments focused on degraded grassland, wetland, riparian, agricultural, and disturbed areas to evaluate ecological condition, identify invasive species, and determine management priorities for sensitive habitats.
Outcome
ENVASS delivered a site-specific AIPS Management Plan aligned with the National Environmental Management: Biodiversity Act (NEMBA) Alien and Invasive Species Regulations. The report provided vegetation maps, species inventories, prioritised management units, recommended control methods and herbicide selection, and a long-term implementation and monitoring framework to support effective invasive species management and ongoing environmental compliance.
